Valle de Angeles

Buenos dias! Just enjoying an enormous feast-brunch with the gals of the orange house. The menu includes eggs with onions, peppers, and melted cheese, banana cake, licuados (smoothies), cinnamon muffins, watermelon, and fresh pineapple.

I won't be able to post anything new for a few days. My gracious host, Paula, and I are traveling to Valle de Angeles for a long weekend. Valle (as it is affectionately called) is located about an hour away from Tegucigalpa in a more mountainous region of Honduras. According to Paula, Valle is a pueblo and more quaint than the capital. In town, one can find artisan crafts, trinkets, and art. There is a special kind of wood native to Honduras and many wares are made of this material. Also, crafts sold in Valle are made in the Lenca tradition. The word "Lenca" describes an indigenous people of Honduras who thrived during the time of the Mayans and Incans. There is still a Lencan population in Honduras today. This type of design in pottery creates pieces that are black and tan in color (see pic below).

Apart from the beautiful artisan work, I'm told the local cuisine in Valle is unbelievable so I will be sampling that as much as possible. Plus, Valle boasts a great tailor shop and I shall be getting measured for some new pants. How do you like them apples?

Enjoy your weekend! Nos vemos.
